Event Details:
The SCI Breast Cancer and African Americans (BCAA) Conference, hosted by the Stanford Cancer Institute Office of Cancer Health Equity, provides education to empower individuals to create meaningful and sustainable change in their overall health and well-being. The conference will take place August 24, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., in Newark, CA.
Black women in the United States are disproportionately affected by breast cancer, often being diagnosed at younger ages, in later stages, and with more aggressive forms, leading to higher mortality rates. This conference is dedicated to addressing and reducing these disparities within the Black/African American communities in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area and its neighboring counties by providing culturally relevant, high-quality, and timely cancer information and education.
The target audience for this event encompasses Black/African American women aged 18 and above, regardless of their health status, including those who are currently undergoing cancer treatment or are survivors. Furthermore, we extend a warm invitation to family members, caregivers, friends, community advocates, clinicians, healthcare professionals, researchers, and faith-based leaders to join us in this gathering. This event aims to create a space where individuals from diverse backgrounds can come together to share knowledge, provide support, and foster collaboration in the realm of health and wellness within the Black/African American community.
Some highlights of the conference include:
- Distinguished local and national speakers/experts in breast cancer, women's health, and wellness
