This interactive workshop is designed to engage scientists in conversation about misinformation and disinformation related to scientific topics. The workshop will feature activities that allow participants to reflect on credibility in science. We will also discuss why the public is susceptible to misleading and inaccurate messages about contentious scientific issues. Participants will learn how and what to communicate to mitigate the spread of misinformation and how to tailor messages to audiences from a range of backgrounds.

This workshop will be organized and led by Daniel Pimentel, a graduate student in the Science Education and Learning Sciences & Technology Design (LSTD) programs at Stanford University, and Sarah Poor, a graduate student in the Curriculum and Instruction program at Texas A&M University with an emphasis in science education. This event will include remarks by Ivan Oransky, MD, who is co-founder of Retraction Watch, editor in chief of Spectrum, and distinguished writer in residence at New York University's Arthur Carter Journalism Institute.
