DESCRIPTION:This interactive workshop is designed to engage scientists in c
 onversation about misinformation and disinformation related to scientific 
 topics. The workshop will feature activities that allow participants to re
 flect on credibility in science. We will also discuss why the public is su
 sceptible to misleading and inaccurate messages about contentious scientif
 ic issues. Participants will learn how and what to communicate to mitigate
  the spread of misinformation and how to tailor messages to audiences from
  a range of backgrounds.\n\n \n\nThis workshop will be organized and led b
 y Daniel Pimentel\, a graduate student in the Science Education and Learni
 ng Sciences & Technology Design (LSTD) programs at Stanford University\, a
 nd Sarah Poor\, a graduate student in the Curriculum and Instruction progr
 am at Texas A&M University with an emphasis in science education. This eve
 nt will include remarks by Ivan Oransky\, MD\, who is co-founder of Retrac
 tion Watch\, editor in chief of Spectrum\, and distinguished writer in res
 idence at New York University's Arthur Carter Journalism Institute.
