This year, Jewish Studies' contribution to the SGS Summer Film Festival is ALSO the launch event for the third year of REWIND: The Shenson Retrospective Film Series. This year, REWIND will explore "Jews and Genre," a theme that dovetails perfectly with the Summer Film Fest theme: "Common Worlds, Limitless Realities: Futurism and Fantasy in Global Cinema."
For this event, we've selected Ari Folman's 2013 genre-bending sci-fi journey, "The Congress."
Stanford affiliates can watch the film in advance here:
The film is also available widely on popular streaming services.
Join Professor Bill Johnston (Indiana University), Stanford graduate student Ali Hazel, and the REWIND team to explore this strange and beautiful film.
