Event Details:
Acclaimed vocalist Tiffany Austin, hailed as “one of the country’s best jazz singers” (KQED Arts), pays tribute to the legendary Sarah Vaughan in Sassy: 100 Years of Sarah Vaughan. With her rich, expressive voice and deep reverence for jazz tradition, Austin reimagines Vaughan’s timeless artistry, bringing warmth, soul, and modern energy to the music of one of jazz’s greatest vocalists.
Nicknamed “Sassy” and “The Divine One,” Sarah Vaughan (1924–1990) was known for her astonishing vocal range, impeccable phrasing, and singular tone. A two-time Grammy winner and NEA Jazz Master, she left an indelible mark on jazz and popular music, with critic Scott Yanow calling her voice “one of the most wondrous of the 20th century.”
A powerhouse performer, Austin has shared the stage with Pharoah Sanders, Roy Ayers, and John Handy, blending jazz with R&B, hip-hop, and blues to create an unforgettable tribute to a true jazz icon.
This event is part of the 2025 Stanford Jazz Festival.
