She grew up hearing recitations of Persian poetry and has deepened her connection to her ancestral culture through singing and translating the work of various Persian poets, most notably the poetry of the 13th century sage and mystic Rumi.
Here Gafori brings the profound works of Rumi to life. Gafori’s book Gold: Poems by Rumi has captivated readers and students across the country, offering a modern glimpse into the mystic’s reflections on love, unity, and the human spirit.
A 2024 MacDowell fellow, Gafori’s artistry spans translation, musical performance, and workshops, sharing Rumi’s poetry in venues from Lincoln Center to Stanford University.
