The Stanford Cancer Institute Breakthroughs in Cancer seminar series is one of the highest-profile seminar series for translational and clinical scientists in oncology. The series brings national leaders in cancer research to Stanford’s campus and highlights innovations across the spectrum of basic, translational, clinical, and population science. 

Join us Tuesday, January 13, 4-5 p.m., at Munzer Auditorium, Beckman Center, or Zoom for a presentation by Lawrence Fong, MD, scientific director of the Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center (IIRC) at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. This seminar is in memory of Wes Brown, MD, who dedicated her career to the Stanford Blood and Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy Program and its patients.

Dr. Fong researches the mechanisms of response and resistance to cancer immunotherapies in both preclinical models and in cancer patients. His work helped lead to the FDA approval of sipuleucel-T, an immunotherapy for prostate cancer. His research investigating novel immunotherapies and combinations, including leading the first trial of adenosine antagonism for cancer immunotherapy, intersects with his role as a genitourinary oncologist treating patients with bladder cancer, kidney cancer, and prostate cancer. He has been involved with preclinical and clinical development of multiple immunotherapies, including immune checkpoint inhibitors that are now FDA-approved.

The event is open to Stanford Cancer Institute members, postdocs, fellows, and students, as well as Stanford University and Stanford Medicine faculty, trainees, and staff interested in basic, translational, clinical, and population-based cancer research.
