DESCRIPTION:The Stanford Cancer Institute Breakthroughs in Cancer seminar s
eries is one of the highest-profile seminar series for translational and c
linical scientists in oncology. The series brings national leaders in canc
er research to Stanford’s campus and highlights innovations across the s
 pectrum of basic\, translational\, clinical\, and population science. \n\n
 Join us Tuesday\, November 11\, 4-5 p.m.\, at Munzer Auditorium\, Beckman
Center or Zoom for a presentation by Benjamin L. Ebert\, MD PhD\, professo
r of medicine at Harvard Medical School\, president and CEO of Dana-Farber
Cancer Institute.\n\nDr. Ebert's laboratory focuses on the molecular basi
s and treatment of hematologic malignancies and their non-malignant precur
sor conditions\, with a particular focus on myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS
) and clonal hematopoiesis. The Ebert laboratory demonstrated that lenalid
 omide\, a derivative of thalidomide\, binds the CRL4-CRBN E3 ubiquitin lig
ase and induces degradation of specific substrates. Subsequent research ha
s examined novel mechanisms of drug-induced protein degradation that expan
d the spectrum of protein substrates that can be targeted pharmacologicall
 y. His presentation will discuss how clonal hematopoiesis increases the ri
sk of blood cancers\, inflammatory diseases\, and overall mortality.\n\nTh
e event is open to Stanford Cancer Institute members\, postdocs\, fellows\
, and students\, as well as Stanford University and Stanford Medicine facu
 lty\, trainees\, and staff interested in basic\, translational\, clinical\
 , and population-based cancer research.\n\nRegistration is encouraged.
