Event Details:
Stanford Libraries is excited to welcome to campus the Estonian musical duo Puuluup, which mixes surrealism, modern folklore, and the talharpa instrument with effect blocks and loopers. This “neo-zombie-post-folk,” award-winning duo has an unmistakable music style, great entertaining abilities, and a sense of humor that has brought them to around 40 countries and big venues around the world—including the Eurovision Song Contest finals.
Their concert pairs the acoustic tone of the talharpa with electronically amplified echoes, knocks, creaks, and crackles. From seemingly rudimental equipment, the rhythms that they loop and the melodies that they harmonize are immediate crowd-pleasers. Their lyrics combine many languages as well as Puuluup’s own made-up vernacular, being mostly abstract and open to different interpretations. All this is paired with their own weird choreography, which they invite you to join in on!
There will also be a screening earlier in the day at 3 pm of a new documentary Puuluup: Cables in the Car about the band.
The concert is free and open to the public. Due to limited capacity, registration is recommended to secure a spot in the venue.
