Event Details:
Stephen Henderson is a multi-genre singer, songwriter, producer, looper pedal artist and instrumentalist whose roots stem from Hana, Maui. Pulling from his multi-ethnic island heritage he courageously navigates the intersection of folk, soul, pop, indie rock and cinematic electronica to tell visual stories that speak directly to the heart. His soul-soaked vocal tone and insane range embody softness and warmth and breathe rich nuance and atmosphere into everything he touches. When not in the water, he produces chill, emotive genre-bending tunes. His ocean inspired guitar work, atmospheric background vocal layers and melancholy undertones pull deep on the heart strings of every listener and leave you filled with tears of loss and hope.
Stephen released his debut album in 2016. Since then he's released numerous singles which air on pacific island radio and was nominated for Na Hoku Hanohano awards for back to back years in 2023 and 2024. Stephen was awarded the Carolyn Applebaum Prize for Music for excellence in service to the musical community and entrepreneurial endeavors from the Stanford University Department of Music. While at Stanford he produced the Stanford Soundtrack, co-founded The Red Couch Project and was integral in creating a community of artists that remains strong and intact today.
This event is co-presented by the Institute for Diversity in the Arts.
