Event Details:

Calorie counting has become a pervasive part of the weight loss industry. As consumers, we encounter calories on our food labels and restaurant menus, and we often  treat these numbers as gospel, obsessively counting and cutting to reach some magical threshold. But what if there is more to the story than just a calorie?

In this practical and entertaining webinar, you will learn how the science challenges this conventional model and why all calories are not created equal. We will explore why popular diets seem to succeed in the short term but ultimately fail, and what your environment has to do with your bodyweight. By gaining a deeper, science-based understanding of your food and metabolism, you can consider the decisions you make about what you choose to eat by learning what you really need to be counting instead.

Instructor: Giles Yeo, PhD, earned his degree from the University of Cambridge and has 20 years of experience studying the genetics of obesity and brain control of food intake, currently focusing on the influence of genes on our feeding behavior and bodyweight. He is also a broadcaster and the author of two books, Gene Eating and Why Calories Don’t Count.
