Event Details:

Speaker bio: Marko Marinković is an assistant professor at the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Civil Engineering and the vice president of Serbian Association for Earthquake Engineering (SAEE). The field of scientific and professional work of Prof. Marinković is related to the seismic analysis of reinforced concrete and masonry structures. He is a member of the CEN/TC 250 working body team established by the European Commission with the task of preparing the next generation of Eurocodes. In addition to his academic work, he is a CEO of a startup working on the development of innovative rubber connection for earthquake resistant RC structures with infill walls.

Lecture abstract: This presentation will provide examples of the observed building and infrastructure damage as well as address the seismological and geotechnical aspects from earthquake reconnaissance missions in Albania (2019), Croatia (2020) and Türkiye (2023). Different aspects and similarities of these three earthquakes will be shown with an emphasizes on the seismic performance of RC structures. Then, an overview of experimental campaigns on RC frames with masonry infill walls will be provided, showing how one of the most common deficiencies of RC structures observed in recent earthquakes can be mitigated using the innovative rubber connection between RC frames and masonry infills developed and patented by Prof. Marinković.

This seminar is organized by the Stanford Urban Resilience Initiative (SURI).
