DESCRIPTION:The central topic of this seminar is modeling approaches to fac
 ilitate resource conservation and a just energy transition. Potential subt
 opics are an emerging technology’s potential for scaling\, life-cycle as
 sessment for measuring social and environmental impacts\, uncertainty quan
 tification\, and economic modeling for the energy transition. Our goal is 
 to create an intimate\, collaborative space for students\, postdocs\, scie
 ntists\, and PIs within the Stanford techno-economic modeling and systems 
 modeling community. These seminars will provide an opportunity to dissemin
 ate insights from your studies\, connect with fellow researchers\, and str
 engthen bonds across the community.\n\nThis week's speaker is:\n\nFeng-Yan
 g Chen\, Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University\n"Making Green Ammonia
  from Waste Nitrate via Electrocatalysis"\n\nAs the global demand for ammo
 nia continues to grow\, driven by its critical role in agriculture\, chemi
 cal manufacturing\, and potential as a clean energy carrier\, sustainable 
 production methods are urgently needed. Ammonia production today contribut
 es significantly to CO₂ emissions\, mainly due to the energy-intensive\,
  fossil-fuel-dependent Haber-Bosch process. In this seminar\, Feng-Yang wi
 ll explore an emerging approach to green ammonia synthesis using electroca
 talysis to convert waste nitrate—a common contaminant in wastewater—in
 to valuable ammonia. This method offers the dual benefit of recycling nitr
 ate from wastewater while reducing the carbon emission from traditional am
