DESCRIPTION:The central topic of this seminar is modeling approaches to fac
ilitate resource conservation and a just energy transition. Potential subt
opics are an emerging technology’s potential for scaling\, life-cycle as
sessment for measuring social and environmental impacts\, uncertainty quan
tification\, and economic modeling for the energy transition. Our goal is
to create an intimate\, collaborative space for students\, postdocs\, scie
ntists\, and PIs within the Stanford techno-economic modeling and systems
modeling community. These seminars will provide an opportunity to dissemin
ate insights from your studies\, connect with fellow researchers\, and str
engthen bonds across the community.\n\nThis week's speaker is:\n\nDimitri
 Saad\, Ph.D. Candidate Stanford University\n"Decarbonizing industrial emis
sions via heat electrification"\n\nIn his lightning talk\, Dimitri will di
scuss the current challenges and opportunities with decarbonizing industri
al facilities. His research\, whose scope centers on California\, integrat
es the decarbonization of the electric power sector in conjunction with th
at of the industrial sector. This approach uses the BRIDGES combined gas-e
lectric energy model and utilizes data from the environmental protection a
gency to estimate heat demands of facilities pertaining to various industr
ial sectors. This work aims to shed light on the necessity of integrated e
nergy models in charting decarbonization pathways for the state of Califor
nia and beyond.\n\nInterested in joining the upcoming seminars? Join our m
