Event Details:
The popular, award-winning 2017 board game Azul was inspired by the Portuguese azulejos, or Arabic-influenced ceramic tilework that first began to be used in medieval Spain and Portugal. However, ceramic tile artistry surrounds us in the Bay Area as well. Have you ever noticed the elaborate ceramic tilework around the Stanford campus, on University Avenue, and multiple locations around the Bay Area? Have you ever wondered where it came from and how it is made?
Join us to play Azul, to learn more about the design and manufacturing process, design influences and heritage, and to find out where examples of this elaborate tilework can still be found today on the Stanford campus and beyond!
Tabletop Tuesdays is an event series held on the third Tuesday of each month. At these events, we feature a selection of board games and collection items from across SUL's holdings around a specific theme. Drop in to learn about the month's featured game(s) and/or try some of the board games we have for open play at the Silicon Valley Archives.
