Talismans of Place and Touch: Tactile Histories / Kinetic Memories

Sponsored by

Event Details:

To celebrate our 10th year, the Anderson Collection is excited to present a film screening event organized and curated by the Stanford Cinematheque inspired by the work and artists featured in The Anderson Collection's Spring Exhibition, The Journey Continues

Talismans of Place and Touch: Tactile Histories / Kinetic Memories explores the textural dimensions of memory, histories, and the journeys they encompass. Bedrooms, canyons, bridges, and forests transform into sensual landscapes that reveal the visceral power of film to evoke tactile modes of remembrance. Baptisms of water and urine, superimpositions, corroded frames, and scratched meters endow these films with evocative layers of material histories, emphasizing how memories themselves resemble layers of sediment. Like woven threads and stacked fibers in an assemblage, film becomes its own textile, weaving a loom that reaches into both the distant past and the unfolding future.

Film program at 4pm in Oshman Hall
