Event Details:

Is democracy truly in peril? While many pundits and polls suggest that democracy is under attack, authors Brook Manville and Josiah Ober offer a different perspective in their thought-provoking book, The Civic Bargain. Join us for an engaging discussion where Manville and Ober explore the future of democracy, pushing back against the prevailing pessimism. Instead of an epitaph for democracy, they provide a roadmap for democratic renewal, urging citizens to recommit to a "civic bargain" that ensures freedom, equality, and dignity.

Through historical insights from Classical Athens, Republican Rome, Britain's constitutional monarchy, and America's founding, Manville and Ober will share key lessons for how modern democracies can thrive.

Join us for this timely and inspiring conversation with Josiah Ober as they remind us that as long as the civic bargain is maintained through deliberation and compromise, democracy will endure.
