For families of children living with serious illness, the holiday season can evoke a complex mix of emotions—joy and connection intertwined with sadness, anxiety, and loss. This session explores the unique emotional challenges and relational dynamics that arise during this time of year. Clinicians will learn strategies to recognize and respond to the heightened emotional needs of families, facilitate supportive conversations, and help them find meaning through new or adapted rituals. The activity aims to enhance clinicians’ ability to provide compassionate, family-centered care that promotes resilience, understanding, and connection throughout the holiday season.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Stanford Medicine is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit.
