DESCRIPTION:Title of talk: Energy Innovation in California\n\nAbstract: The
  California Energy Commission (CEC) invests in a broad set of energy techn
 ology innovation and research activities\, supporting the development of n
 ew products and services that drive progress towards California’s clean 
 energy and climate goals. This includes investments aimed at expanding ren
 ewable energy\; enhancing the reliability of the electricity grid in a cha
 nging climate\; decarbonizing buildings and industry\; and shifting to zer
 o-emission vehicles. In this seminar\, CEC R&D Director Jonah Steinbuck wi
 ll provide an overview of these energy innovation activities\, how they su
 pport the transition to a clean energy economy\, and remaining innovation 
 needs to reach mid-century climate goals.\n\nBio: Jonah Steinbuck is the
  Director of the California Energy Commission’s Energy Research and Deve
 lopment Division\, which advances technology innovation that accelerates t
 he transition to a clean energy economy. Earlier\, he managed the Division
 ’s Energy Generation Research Office. Before joining the CEC\, he worked
  on climate and clean energy policies and initiatives at the U.S. Departme
 nt of Energy\, the American Meteorological Society\, the White House Counc
 il on Environmental Quality\, and the U.S. House of Representatives. He ho
 lds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford Universit
 y and an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School.
