DESCRIPTION:Queer Student Resources (QSR) invites you to join us for an aft
ernoon of Black feminist performance and conversation as scholars and crea
tives explore the relationship between the Black body\, the ocean\, oceani
c ecologies\, and maritime archives. Although one might not expect to find
such a deep\, ontological understanding of one’s lived experience acros
s species\, Dr. Gumbs' most recent book\, Undrowned\, introduces us to les
sons that help us reimagine our relationships with each other and with mar
ine animals. Gumbs asks\, “What are the intergenerational and evolutiona
ry ways that we become what we practice? How can we navigate oppressive en
vironments with core practices that build community\, resistance\, and mor
e loving ways of living?” We hope to uncover these practices of learning
and examine existing practices for record keeping\, both for humans and o
ther mammals\, to decenter the histories documented for us under a “raci
al gendered ableist capitalism.” This discussion aims to empower individ
uals to further queer the dichotomy between teacher and learner\, forging
a community that will carry these insights into the future.\n\nDr. Alexis
Pauline Gumbs in conversation with Dr. Ayana Omilade Flewellen -- opening
performance by artist Maya Nell\n\nRSVP available here: https://linktr.ee/
