DESCRIPTION:The LASERs (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) are an int
ernational program of evening gatherings that bring artists and scientists
together for informal presentations and conversation with an audience. Th
is evening\, chaired by professor Curtis Frank\, will feature these talks
:\n\n- Tanya Luhrmann (Stanford Anthropology) on "Voices"\n\n- Muhammad Kh
atib (Stanford Chemical Engineering) on "Fiber Bioelectronics for Precisio
n Medicine"\n\n- Nitya Thakkar (Stanford Medicine) on "AI for Precision He
alth"\n\nTanya Marie Luhrmann is a Professor in the Stanford Anthropology
Department whoserecent work has been on voices\, visions\, felt presence a
nd other remarkable events in psychiatric illness and in religious experie
nce. She was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2003\

God Becomes Real.\n\nMuhammad Khatib is an engineer and innovator in th
e Department of Chemical Engineering at Stanford University working at the
intersection of technology and medicine. He specializes in bioelectronic
devices that interact with the human body for sensing and stimulation\, pr
oviding new opportunities in health monitoring and interventions. He deve
lops high-density\, soft bioelectronic fibers as thin as a human hair for
biomedical applications.\n\nNitya Thakkar is a Computer Science PhD studen
t at Stanford University\, advised by James Zou. Her research focuses on d
eveloping AI and computational methods to advance precision medicine\, wit
h a focus on integrating multimodal data.\n\nDetailed bios at: Leonardo Ar
