Event Details:
Ecumenical Christian Service with Rev. Hardy Kim, Head of Staff at Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church, Preaching.
University Public Worship gathers weekly for the religious, spiritual, ethical, and moral formation of the Stanford community. Rooted in the history and progressive Christian tradition of Stanford’s historic Memorial Church, we cultivate a community of compassion and belonging through ecumenical Christian worship and occasional multifaith celebrations. Doors open at 10:30 am.
After the service, join us for a God Talk, an after-worship conversation with the congregation.
About our Guest Preacher:
Rev. Hardy Kim joined the staff of Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church in July 2017 to serve as Pastor and Head of Staff. He is a second generation Korean-American who was raised in Vancouver, Canada and the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan.
After receiving a bachelor's degree in government, Hardy enrolled in law school with the belief that a career in law would enable him to change society and express his faith by helping others. However, after doing a year of volunteer service with conflict-impacted communities in and around Belfast, Northern Ireland he began to see that his calling was not to law, but to ministry. The joy experienced and connections made with folks in faith communities that were working for justice, peace, and wholeness convinced him that those same communities were necessary for him to find a sustainable vocation.
Hardy enjoys the natural beauty of the Bay Area, but is often overwhelmed by the ways that the corporate culture and massive wealth here tend to distort our ways of living and keep people from experiencing genuine connection. Hardy enjoys being outdoors, especially if he's able to go for a run in a beautiful setting. He is committed to getting together with friends to cook, enjoy warm hospitality and lively conversation.
