Ecumenical Christian Service with Rev. Dr. Zandra L. Jordan, Director of the Hume Center for Writing and Speaking, Preaching.

Rev. Dr. Zandra L. Jordan is Director of the Hume Center for Writing and Speaking. A trained rhetorician and ordained Baptist minister, she holds a B.A. in English from Spelman College, a M.A.T in English from Brown University, a MDiv with Certification in Black Church Studies from Emory University, and a PhD in English and Education from the University of Michigan. Her current scholarship focuses on womanist ethics, racial justice, and writing center administration. At Stanford, she also serves as a Chaplain Affiliate with the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life. Beyond Stanford, she leads THRIVE Women's Ministry at University AME Zion Church in Palo Alto. Dr. Jordan is a proud member of the San Francisco-Peninsula Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and the San Jose Chapter of the Links, Incorporated.

University Public Worship gathers weekly for the religious, spiritual, ethical, and moral formation of the Stanford community. Rooted in the history and progressive Christian tradition of Stanford’s historic Memorial Church, we cultivate a community of compassion and belonging through ecumenical Christian worship and occasional multifaith celebrations. 

  • Stanford University guidelines now state that masks are no longer required, but are strongly recommended. We encourage you to continue wearing masks for the comfort of our patrons, staff, and artists. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test will no longer be required for entry. 
  • Individuals should not attend events if they are feeling ill or symptomatic.
  • Guests must still report if they test positive.
