DESCRIPTION:Calorie counting has become a pervasive part of the weight loss
industry. As consumers\, we encounter calories on our food labels and rest
aurant menus\, and we often treat these numbers as gospel\, obsessively cou
nting and cutting to reach some magical threshold. But what if there is mor
e to the story than just a calorie?\n\nIn this practical and entertaining w
ebinar\, you will learn how the science challenges this conventional model
and why all calories are not created equal. We will explore why popular die
ts seem to succeed in the short term but ultimately fail\, and what your en
vironment has to do with your bodyweight. By gaining a deeper\, science-bas
ed understanding of your food and metabolism\, you can consider the decisio
ns you make about what you choose to eat by learning what you really need t
o be counting instead.\n\nThis class will be recorded and a one-week link t
o the recording will be shared with all registered participants. Attend the
live session or listen to the recording within one week to receive incenti
ve points.\n\nRequest disability accommodations and access info.\n\nInstruc
tor: Giles Yeo\, PhD\, earned his degree from the University of Cambridge a
nd has 20 years of experience studying the genetics of obesity and brain co
ntrol of food intake\, currently focusing on the influence of genes on our
feeding behavior and bodyweight. He is also a broadcaster and the author of
two books\, Gene Eating and Why Calories Don’t Count.\n\nClass details are
  subject to change.
