Event Details:

When Makena began working in climate resilience, she often pictured sea level rise adaptation as levees and other engineered structures to keep out water, but over time, she has realized that this is a very small part of what sea level rise adaptation looks like. Makena will discuss what she has learned over her last four years working on tough challenge of sea level rise adaptation at OneShoreline: that sea level rise adaptation is rooted in land use decisions we make on how and where we choose to build our communities.
