Work Smarter With AI: Balancing Automation, Augmentation, and Critical Thinking for Nonprofits

This event is over.

Event Details:

Over-reliance on generative AI comes at a “cognitive cost”: critical thinking and intellectual independence are the very skills we need to solve complex societal issues, and AI use can degrade those skills.

But does avoiding AI completely mean we lose out on ways to expand our ability to serve our communities?

This webinar will explore how learning how to use AI with intention can allow leaders to maintain or even supercharge their creativity and problem-solving abilities, while also enabling nonprofits to reap productivity gains from this technology.

We’ve invited Beth Kanter, renowned nonprofit trainer and author, to help us understand how to balance the tradeoffs of AI use through current research in cognitive science, refined prompting techniques, and real-world lessons and case studies from the field.

Join this interactive 90-minute program to learn how to thoughtfully integrate AI while protecting your cognitive capabilities. You will leave with tools and recommendations that can be applied directly to your work. Register now!

You’ll be able to:

  • Distinguish healthy vs. unhealthy cognitive offloading (and understand when to save time without sacrificing skills)
  • Understand the research on AI dependence as well as its impact on core workplace cognitive skills
  • Apply practical cognitive and prompting techniques to use AI as a thought partner rather than a replacement for thinking
  • Explore AI applications for skill-building, strategic analysis, creative problem-solving, and amplifying organizational impact
  • Make informed decisions about when to automate, augment, or keep work human-only.

Meet the speaker
Beth Kanter is a trainer and consultant with over 35 years of experience building capacity in leadership and technology adoption for nonprofit leaders. She is the co-author with Allison Fine of The Smart Nonprofit: Staying Human-Centered in an Automated World and has been advising nonprofits on intentional, human-centered AI adoption for the past six years—well before ChatGPT made headlines. Beth has delivered keynotes and facilitated workshops on AI skilling and adoption throughout the US and internationally, and has worked with nonprofits and foundations on human-centered AI strategy and skilling programs to help their organizations and staff become future-ready. She recently completed her IDEO certificate in Human-Centered Design Thinking and AI Integration, where she developed original instructional frameworks and activities to help nonprofit leaders learn to think collaboratively with AI to scale innovation and impact.

Who should attend?
This program is designed for nonprofit leaders and professionals engaged in knowledge work, though many takeaways can be applied more broadly.

This session will be helpful for those who are:

  • Seeking to adopt AI strategically rather than reactively
  • Unsure of where to start with AI integration or overwhelmed by the variety of AI products and solutions
  • Feeling overly dependent on AI and wanting to reclaim cognitive skills
  • Concerned with AI risks

Prerequisites: This is not designed for absolute AI beginners. We expect attendees to have used a large language model (LLM) before and to have begun considering how AI might integrate into their work.
