What's the best way to celebrate Omara Portuondo's 85th birthday? A musical party at the Bing with an all-star roster of musicians!
The Buena Vista Social Club's Portuondo will be joined by pianist Roberto Fonseca, clarinetist and saxophonist Anat Cohen, and violinist Regina Carter, two classically trained jazz masters. Portuondo launched her career in 1950 and the years since have only burnished her magnetic presence and vocal grace. Now the great Cuban diva will celebrate with a grand fiesta performing much loved classics from "Besame Mucho" to "Veinte Años."
PRE-CONCERT TALK: At 6:30pm, join the National Jazz Museum in Harlem's Loren Schoenberg for a conversation with Omara's collaborator Roberto Fonesca about his genre-crossing style and the legacy of Cuban jazz today.
