Stanford Repertory Theater (SRT) presents its 18th summer festival, “Theater Takes a Stand,” celebrating the role of the theater in championing the rights of workers, the struggle for unions, the ongoing campaign for wage equality, and the (still) radical idea that the lives of everyday working people can provide the material for compelling performances that expand the horizons of us all.

The festival seems all too timely in an election year, in which growing income inequality, corporate influence over elections, and the unprecedented influence of the financial sector and Wall Street on our daily lives have emerged as key political issues. We believe that taking on these topics is both a responsibility of theater artists and an opportunity to remind ourselves of some of the theater’s great traditions.
