The geographical displacement from homeland to a foreign country greatly shapes the musical thinking, creative concerns and artistic workds of a group of immigrant Mexican composers. This panel discussion will analyze the extent immigrant status of such artists is a key factor to nourish, inform, affect, and even enact their musical expressions and artistic concerns.
The recent work of four Mexican composers based in the San Francisco Bay Area will be addressed to show how their creative output is deliberately influenced by their immigrant perspectives. Beyong the allegorical references uncovered by this New Immigrant Mexican Music, pure and fresh forms of musical expression are brought together to extend the musical map that enriches the multicultural diversity of this country.
