Take four musicians, ninety-three string quartets, and the genius of Franz Josef Haydn: Stir vigorously and applaud wildly. San Francisco Chamber Orchestra All-Stars Ben Simon, Robin Sharp, Julie Kim, and Hannah Addario-Berry are the Haydn Project, launched in September 2013 to boldly go where few quartets have gone before—a journey of exploration into the mostly brilliant, always inventive, enormously engaging ninety-plus string quartets of “Papa” Haydn. This special event will include a short presentation about Haydn by San Francisco Chamber Orchestra director Ben Simon, and the performance of two quartets.

Ben Simon, Violist; Music Director, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra (SFCO)

Ben Simon is now in his sixteenth season as music director of the SFCO. He is also the music director of the award-winning youth ensemble Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra. Simon has been teaching Continuing Studies courses since 1996, and has organized Public Programs featuring the music of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Bartók, Schubert, Bernstein, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and others.

Robin Sharp, Violinist; Lecturer, Department of Music, Stanford

Robin Sharp is a frequent soloist and chamber musician in the Bay Area. She has participated in music festivals worldwide as concertmaster of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. She is also a lecturer in violin and chamber music at Stanford.

Julie Kim, Violinist; Founder, Franciscan String Quartet

Julie Kim has performed extensively throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States. She has served on the faculty at Dartmouth College, participated in the Aspen, Norfolk, and Banff music festivals, and pursued chamber music studies with the Tokyo, Julliard, Cleveland, Emerson, and Vermeer string quartets. She plays often with the San Francisco Opera and Ballet orchestras.

Hannah Addario-Berry, Cellist

Hannah Addario-Berry is a chamber musician who is equally at home with Haydn and with more contemporary fare. She was a member of the Del Sol String Quartet from 2006 through 2010, is active in many local groups, and is founder and director of two Bay Area music series, Cello Bazaar and Locaphonic.
