Terry Hwa is Presidential Chair Professor, Department of Physics, Division of Physical Sciences, Section of Molecular Biology, Division of Biological Sciences, at University of California, San Diego. His research group uses a combination of theoretical and experimental approaches to elucidate the organizational principles of living systems. The goal is to quantitatively characterize the physiological behaviors and understand how they arise in terms of the underlying molecular interactions. He is a recipient of numerous awards including the Sloan and Guggenheim fellowships, and he is a fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Academy of Microbiology.
