Join us for an evening of lyrical chamber music of Johannes Brahms, featuring outstanding contralto Karen R. Clark and San Francisco Chamber Orchestra All-Stars Michael Graham on cello, Karen Rosenak on piano, and Ben Simon on viola. The performance will include Two Songs and the autumnal Trio in A minor, originally written for clarinet but upgraded to viola for this performance. This program will feature a short presentation by host Ben Simon on Brahms’s life and times, as well as a discussion of the music to be presented.

Ben Simon, Music Director, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra; Violist

Ben Simon is in his sixteenth season as music director of the SFCO. Simon, also a violist, puts down his baton to join his fellow SFCO All-Stars for select performances. He is also the music director of the award-winning youth ensemble Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, which rehearses and performs down the road from Stanford. Simon has been hosting Continuing Studies events since 1996, and has organized popular special events featuring the music of Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Bartók, Schubert, Bernstein, Mendelssohn, and others.
