In the popular imagination, Bangladesh is a country being hit particularly hard by climate change, from rising sea levels to erratic weather. But in Bangladesh, as in the world, not all people experience climate impacts in the same way. Some proposed climate solutions can actually exacerbate environmental and social vulnerability in particular areas among certain groups. The longer history of shrimp cultivation in Bangladesh is instructive in understanding who might benefit from climate adaptation and who pays the cost. Attention to social realities is essential in analyzing these uneven impacts.
