6:00 pm

CEMEX Auditorium Map

Join us for an evening with leading contemporary artist Dana Schutz and the Director of LAXART, Hamza Walker for the first public event in a series of conversations.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Artists on the Future provides renowned international artists and cultural thought leaders with a platform to catalyze alternative perspectives on urgent socio-political questions and create dialogue between different communities in Silicon Valley and beyond.

Dana Schutz is a dynamic contemporary artist whose masterful painting strokes reveal the complexities and ironies of human nature, often depicting darkly humorous narratives, hypothetical situations and impossible physical feats.

Schutz will be in discussion with Hamza Walker, director of LAXART, a nonprofit space that supports artistic programming and discourse around current social issues. They will address the history and issues of appropriation and representation and explore the paradoxical nature of the artistic process – a solitary act that is often offered for public scrutiny.
