In Trading Faces: Aspects of a 20th-century Northwest Coast Collection, exploration of carvings, prints, paintings, and other items from Canada and Alaska reveals tension between category and significance as indigenous creations circulate in a Westernized art market. Artists, collectors, institutions, and the objects themselves shape how we appreciate these modern and contemporary pieces.
