The Department of Art and Art History presents Reversals: Sixth Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition, on view October 1 through December 1, 2019, at the Stanford Art Gallery. Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, October 3, 4-6 pm.
"As curator of the Sixth Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition at the Stanford Art Gallery, I want to acknowledge everyone who has contributed to and supported this extraordinary celebration of the arts at Stanford. The vision that shapes the exhibit is a campus-wide commitment to, engagement in, and enjoyment of art as the preeminent mode of creative communication.
Students from all over the university were invited to submit works of art, from which our distinguished panel of jury members—Aleesa P. Alexander (Assistant Curator of American Art, Cantor Arts Center), Kevin B. Chen (Visual Artist, Curator, Educator), and Gabriel Harrison (Gallery Exhibitions Manager)—have selected the most original, accomplished, expressive, and meaningful. The spirit of this exhibit is one of community and collaboration, and of diverse artistic sensibilities that find expression on different scales through a variety of media
The impetus behind this exhibit, entitled Reversals, is to evoke how art can provide meaningful perspective and raise challenging, multifaceted questions rather than indulge single-minded, single-focused resolutions, especially in an unprecedentedly polarizing culture. Please join our artists on their journey of continuous exploration and experiment, which bridges fields of interest and inquiry, and connects the intimacy of the studio space to the horizons of the world at large." —Jonathan Calm, Curator and Assistant Professor of Art Practice
